"But the Lord God called to the man, "Where are you?" Genesis 3:9
When I was a child, my mother set limits on where I went to play and how long I stayed. Occasionally, an odd thing would happen. When I was out of limits, beyond my boundaries, I would hear my mother's voice call me,"Jean, Jean! It is time you came home!"
I'd run home as fast as I could, to avoid the consequences. More than once, as I rushed in breathless, my mother would be surprised to see me. I'd ask, "Didn't you call me?" She would smile and say, "No, but it was time I did."
When we feel troubled about what we are doing or sense we are in the wrong place, it is probably God disturbing us with his probing question: "Where are you."
It is not that he doesn't know where you are, but do you know? It is a good situation when where you are is where God wants you to be.
Disobedience to the limitations God set for man and woman in the Garden of Eden made them afraid to meet God. All the joy of being near him fled. Instead of looking forward to walking and talking with him, they looked for a place to hide from him.
Sin separates us from God, but never separates God from us. He comes searching to walk and talk with us. Sin makes us fearful and we hide from him. But love comes calling.
STOP! Stop doing what is past the limits God has set. Rather than hiding, don't go farther off limits in any relationship or situation you are in right now.
PRAYER: I want to be open and honest with you, Lord. Help me to obey my inner convictions. I will not hide from you, but I come to you. When I go beyond the limits you have set, speak to me and forgive me. In Jesus' Name. Amen
