"And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold." Matt. 24:12
For all practical purposes, most people live as atheists; those who believe there is no God to whom they are accountable. Their lifestyle expresses the most contemptible insult towards Christianity; indifference, cold, cruel indifference.
That is the very attitude you and I as believers must not develop. Never become indifferent to Jesus. Recall, if you can, when In a flash of revelation, in a moment of recognition, your heart was pierced with passionate love for Jesus.
Such holy passion is ageless, indestructible. It is the martyr's energy. Sinners, smitten with Calvary's love, become saints, able to endure torture rather than deny their love for Jesus. It is the tireless theme of those who cry holy around the throne.
Those who live a devout Christian life in a rationalistic age are a conundrum, a contradiction, to what is popular and idolized by the worldly around them. To the cynical they appear like relics of another time. Those who love God deeply are often considered by unbelievers to be out of date, rejects, the unfashionable.
When the fashionable God-haters of this world have passed away, lovers of God will continue to inspire service and selfless devotion. Extreme courage, expressed by those who would rather have Jesus than anything, remains the testimony that overcomes the world.
HOW DO I LIVE IN THIS WORLD? As an atheist or believer? Do those around me see me indifferent to Christianity or passionately devoted to Christ?
PRAYER: Lord, I ask forgiveness, for I have become indifferent to You. I do not want that attitude to grow in my heart. Keep love's fire burning in me. You are the Lover of my soul and there can be no other. Holy Spirit fuel my love for Jesus. Amen
