"If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?" LUKE 11:13

The scene Jesus paints here with his words is familiar to every parent or child . A boy asks his father for bread. Or a son asks for a fish. They lift their plates, their eyes are full of trust, they wait full of anticipation. Then, Jesus inserts the unexpected into the scene. Instead of bread, the father offers a stone! Instead of a fish, he tricks the child with a serpent! Quickly Jesus adds, "As bad as your are, you wouldn't think of such a thing!"

You sigh with relief as You hear his promise:"How much more will your Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?" His words are intended to give you confidence to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit without fear of it being dangerously unsafe.

Bread is a normal resource for natural hunger; so the Holy Spirit is a normal resource for spiritual hunger. Just as fish is healthy and nutritious, so the Holy Spirit is a safe, satisfying nourishment for your spiritual appetite. He fills the empty place and is good for you. You were made to be filled and endued with his power.

Ask him! Trust your Father. He is ready to give you good gifts.

Prayer: Dear Lord, more please! Yes, I've tasted and I know you are good. I long for the Holy Spirit to make me a healthy child in your family. Amen
