Pentecost Sunday
"When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound of a rushing mighty wind... Then there appeared ... fire.. upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance."Acts 2:1-4
The rest of Acts is the record of how they continued to speak. They did not speak to men with power, until they spoke to God in prayer.
The church was born in a prayer meeting. One hundred and twenty men and women obeyed the Lord's command to wait in Jerusalem. After ten days of prayer, wind and fire marked the arrival of the Spirit's power. Supernatural words poured through lips that prayed. It was the birth-cry of a new-born church alive!
Your experience of Pentecost is important to the revival of a Spirit-filled, Spirit-empowered, Spirit-led church. Birthed in a prayer meeting, the church is nourished by prayer-meetings. The church that prays together stays together to finish the task.
The Holy Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go! But pray first.
Prayer for a new day of Pentecost power: Jesus, Head of the Church, thank you for the Holy Spirit. Forgive my neglect of prayer, not only alone, but with the church-family. I want to be part of the move of the Holy Spirit, like wind and fire, in the prayer meeting. Please help me to obey and wait with the church until we are endued with power from heaven. Revive the prayer meetings in the church. Amen
