KEEP IT HOLY

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.” Exodus 20:7

Everyday conversation in USA is constantly punctuated with “Oh my God!” The words reveal abject ignorance of the Ten Commandments, particularly the third one.

THE FIRST OF TEN COMMANDMENTS

“You shall have no other god's before Me. You shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,......“ Exodus 20:3 -6

“A new Ten Commandments is needed....” That's what Lech Walesa said this week.

Lech Walesa, who won the Nobel prize 30 years ago for his leadership of Poland's Solidarity trade union and the group's peaceful end to communism in 1989, said a new Ten Commandments is needed to bring together the world under one basic set of principles. The Polish leader was opening speaker of a three-day summit of Nobel Peace Prize winners in Warsaw this week.

SECRET TO SPIRITUALITY

 “A hearing ear and the seeing eye: the Lord made them both.”Prov.20:12

 A readiness to be taught is vital to the spirituality of any follower of Christ. Spiritual insight and discernment are gifts given by the Master to those who are teachable.

Jesus was quick to answer questions his disciples asked when he taught, when he ministered to the sick and when they wanted to learn to pray. HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE

“Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.” Hebrews 13:7-8

Our text calls believers to remember leaders who gave them God's word. It is a reminder to take note of how such people practiced what they preached. Their life style was centered upon pleasing the unchanging Christ.

Those who live to please themselves crave to do what makes them happy. It is easy to assume a sense of entitlement; to say, “I deserve this.” It doesn't take long to forget or to lose respect for those who enabled us to be who we are today. (To read more click on article title)
